the logic of bluebird house hunting
The weekend was a great one – we got a new big TV from our neighbors, I found out my friends Chris and Rachel had their twins, the bluebirds look as though they are making a nest in our box (built by Dana’s grandfather) in the front yard, the kids got to play outside a lot, and Dana shook her migraine too.
Dana did some research last night and having a bluebird box does require some commitment. It’s very important to monitor the boxes to promote a happy home for our new buddies. We have to keep an eye out for cats, raccoons, starlings, and blowfly.
Our neighbors Brian and Heather are incredibly kind, they got a new really sweet TV and want to give us their old TV – very nice projection TV (62″ diag). We’re currently convincing them to accept some moolah for it. Their offer of dog sitting their beagles as payment isn’t exactly equitable. We’ll have to find a way to make it up to them. I think the bluebirds are moving in because of Brian and Heather…good neighbors are hard to find.
I finished Man’s Search for Meaning last night and I’m getting ready to start Cowboy Logic by Kinky Friedman. I need something a little more lighter after reading about noogenic neurosis and the existential vacuum.
I recommend that the Statue of Liberty be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the west coast. Viktor E. Frankl

I love that wagon picture. Ahh, Kinky Friedman. That guy sounds so awesome. I need a band of Texas Jew boys.
I should get started on Man’s Search for Meaning. Too bad I’m in the process of reading the first Harry Potter and two other children’s books …

You’ll be proud of me Sarah, I got the Kinky Friedman book from the library.

SEE! Libraries are great. Michael killed me when we left the library and he said it was “like Google, only better.”

You have some good neighbors!
Your kids are adorable! Looks like a fun weekend.

Those look like some happy kids! Hell, I was happy that I got to play outside, too.
Upgrading from a 62″ TV: you’ve got to be kidding.

Wow, where can I sign up for neighbors like that?!

62″ … 64 teams – near coincidence? I think not.
Glad to see that everyone on your end got out and enjoyed the weather, too. It really was a beautiful weekend. And congrats on the bluebirds – I’m hoping to see the first nests going into our boxes soon. Last year we had cardinals, titmice, house sparrows and chickadees – I’m hoping to top that this year (yes, we’re nuts).
Re: Statue quote – heck, I think we need a Statue of Logic and Personal Responsibility in the dead center of this country, myself.

We were bird watchers and bird feeders in the U.S. but there isn’t a place in our yard to put a feeder here.
I remember late one winter in Virgina when our pine trees were covered with snow, a FLOCK of bluebirds came through and landed on a single tree. I’d never seen them in a group like that, least of all in winter.
As for the generous neighbors–don’t think of “paying back,” just remember to pay it forward. Accept that it’s a joy for them to share with you and let a sense of indebtedness go.

Man, if my neighbours gave us televisions, I wouldn’t move.

Starlings and raccoons are evil, very evil. They seem cute and all, but they really just want to suck our blood. It sounds like a great weekend was had by all.

Boy, having a bluebird box sounds like adding more children to the family; I don’t know if I could take it.
But you can relax in front of that new tv, which will counteract any bluebird stress.

Yea, I’m not sure I’d want this guy lurking around my birdhouse either. Althgough I probably wouldn’t mind hanging out with him elsewhere.

I’m way ahead of you on all counts. First, I turned 36 last year. Second, I’ve already read The Kite Runner. (It was very good; read my review on my Central Booking blog). Finally, I bought that crappy Costco pool 2 years ago and everything broke on it. Good luck.

Oh, btw, you need to create a dummy Blogger blog that redirects to this one so that I don’t keep clicking your comments to get to your blog and then have to back out and go to my links page. Please?
