GN’R Dirge for Crickets
Wugga Bugga Nick, the bearded dragon, is going to meet the Nokomis morning kindergarten class. It’s sound basket day, and today is D, as in dragon. I stopped by the pet store last night to get some crickets so they can witness him feeding. The leezard will definitely be hungry, he hasn’t had crickets in a couple days. I should have suggested to my wife to bring a boombox to play Welcome to the Jungle for the crickets as they are released into his cage. You know where you are crickets? You’re in a kindergarten class and you gonna die!
I’ve got bids out for three different site redesigns right now. I hope some of those come through. Also, the R-rated site owner has another potential project for me (no boobies on this project though, just a boobless e-commerce site).
I have found my iMac guitar salvation and it was there the whole time. Garageband! Sure it’s not as sexy as Logic, Cubase, or Digital Performer, but it freakin’ works with my PodXT USB audio connection perfectly (zero latency!). I added two very quick guitar parts to that song I’ve been working on (still untitled). The guitar parts come in around the 2:05 mark of the song. When it comes to mastering, I might have to duct tape another application to the whole process (like Audacity possibly?) to use the Waves bundle to get the polish on the mix.

Oh the kids will all have nightmares tonight!
Here’s hoping your next project is boobie-ful.

I’m sure that Wugga Bugga Nick (that name cracks me up!) will be a hit with the kids.
It’s cool that Garageband is working, but do you think that’s going to be an acceptable long-term solution? It’s better than nothing, definitely, but that’s probably going to be pretty limiting.
I wonder if the Waves plug-ins will work with Audacity.

The crickets in kindergarten are already giving me pre-nightmares, and I didn’t even get to see the show!

The Guns N Roses thing killed me! That will be really cool for the kids to see though!

I can see it now – you’ll be in trouble for traumatizing sensitive kindergartners…

Bring a box of Kleenex and have grief counselors standing by…

leelee – it’s really odd having a discussion of broken features on a website. when you get a bug walkthrough, there’s always a butt or something on my screen.
apertome – nah, it won’t be a long term solution, but it’s a free solution right now. I’ll end up getting an audio converter and logic or DP at some point when I can afford it.
Jay – just think about baseball…oh, pre-NIGHTMARES, my bad.
tori – I think I’ve read on your blog that you’re a former kindergarten teacher and I would just like to point out, you’re the only one not claiming that this will traumatize the kids. things eating bugs is cool to 5 year olds, trust me.
Chris – when the world is overrun by crickets, you’ll wish you had a bearded dragon too
V-Grrl – I think Oprah will be at the classroom to do a show

FYI (for those of you who dare to doubt the almighty MRS. K’s notion that the kids would love the lizard, and would be stoked to witness his wrath)…
I’d just like to inform you that after about 3 minutes the kids were screaming at me to “MAKE HIM EAT THEM!!” when the beardie was too busy looking at the kids (who were fixated on him)…there were 50 fresh LIVE crickets crawling around in his cage and the lizard didn’t even notice because they’re very social as far as reptiles go and he wanted to get to check out the kids.
Only one of the girls was worried but once she realized I wasn’t getting him out of his cage she took a front row seat to witness the carnage.
Kids are cool, and aren’t scared of anything until they learn to be…that’s part of what makes them so neat!

LOL at your wife’s comment.

Mmmm…those parts are nice. I like how you let the rhythm bit ring a little more when the drums kick in. The hot parts are very nice–it could be that they could maybe be louder, or it could be that my hearing is finally shot.

All crickets die. It’s just the way it is, so I’m sure they’re fine with it.
