i’m a van, i don’t need no stinkin’ car
What a great night last night. We headed down to South Philly early to take in an amazing meal at Scannicchio’s. The appetizer was this fresh fig and sausage with some sort of crazy reduction sauce. Everybody had gigantic plates full of awesome Italian food. Doug’s Chicken Parm was bigger than his head (both are incidentally covered with cheese). After dinner, we rolled our selves down to the ballpark just in time to catch the bottom of the first. The stadium was electric, lots of fun to be there. I couldn’t believe how well Kyle Lohse pitched last night, he got behind often in the count, but kept his cool and got batters out. He threw only 89 pitches over seven innings. On top of the Phils winning the game, the Mets let a 5 run lead slip and lost to the Nats! Dad bought Van and Viv each a Phanatic doll, Bubs got a Ryan Howard t-shirt and Viv got an adorable Phillies cheerleader outfit.
When I got home, I came down from the Phillies high by finishing the rest of The Seven Samurai. This film was fantastic, like Citizen Kane, it’s amazing how influential this film was and how easy to forget when it was filmed (1954).
I woke up at 5am for no good reason and couldn’t fall back asleep. So I picked up A Thousand Splendid Suns and read for an hour or so.
Well I finally did it, I did the commute on my bike. It was a little tough at first getting used to the weight of the full pannier (work clothes, laptop, etc.) but I didn’t have any problems and getting to work early was kinda nice. I do need to order another pannier for the other side though, the laptop took up a lot of space and it would be nice to take a full sized towel to dry off when I get in.
I’ve got Grace’s guitar lesson tonight and then I need to give Marty some help with wrapping up the project we’ve been working on.
- Titan Missle Silo for Sale
- Global Incident Map – think of this as food for our fear riddled brains
- LOLTheist – wow, now that’s some …wow
- Baby Hand Soap – that’s just a little creepy

Ah hell, I always get up at 5:30 to get to the gym.
I love Seven Samarai and it’s companion piece – oh crap I can’t remember the name! It had all the badasses of the day…. thank you IMDB, the Magnificent Seven. I can’t watch one with out the other.
I’ve always wanted a missile silo – wanna put our pennies together and buy it??

Marty – I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats
Open Grove Claudia – I don’t mind getting up early, but I just kind of popped up. Yogi doesn’t like early mornings, he needs his beauty sleep. I saw the Magnificent Seven a long time ago, but I had read it was based on Seven Samurai, now I need to rewatch. Silo would be cool, but it better have swimming spot for Yogi.

Sarah and I saw the Phils game was on when we went out for dinner last night, and thought of you. I’m glad you had a good time.
Good job doing your commute ride finally. My hat is off to you — that’s a much longer commute than mine. Did you end up getting a Banjo Brothers pannier?

mamatulip – yeah, but i get to wear the lycra shorts when riding a bike, not some actor guy crawling around on stage.

If you liked the Seven Samurai you might also like Zatoichi. Or not.
September 27th, 2007 at 1:23 pm

Sounds like an awesome evening! I wish more workplaces had showers to facilitate bike commuting.

I hear the Mets are in serious trouble. They suck in September. Football kicks ass Furious. Are you going to any games this year?
September 27th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
I love reading a post by you that starts “what a great night.” It’s so good to hear you happy!
September 27th, 2007 at 9:29 pm

I can’t believe how the Mets are just totally collapsing. That is amazing. At this point they don’t deserve the playoffs.

corky – actually on my bike ride down to the shore on Sunday, I got a call from my neighbor that had an extra ticket. so nope, haven’t been yet, but i definitely hope i will soon
Cindy Lou – oh, give it a day…yeah, today’s post ain’t all bright and shiney
liv – gotcha again last night too… sorry about that. big D, you have a Golden Retriever too? just kiddin. I hate the big D, love the little ones with a tenacity unforeseen by mankind.
dorky dad – as a philly fan, one of our greatest joys is to watch any NY team collapse, doesn’t happen much, but we savor it like a fine bitter wine
