where a boy nearly becomes one with his couch
Besides taking a run Saturday morning with Yogi, blowing leaves, and stacking a cord of firewood, all I pretty much did all weekend during the day was code. And this was my view…
There were attempts by the cat to stop me from working. But Ziggy eventually gave up.
So yeah, I really did work all weekend (and do my best to keep a nice fire going). I did get a shipping module finished for the curtain rods website and made some good headway on the PERL to build a new page for NitroVideo.
Whilst coding away like a madman, I did watch a lot of movies this weekend – Schindler’s List (amazing, but when you put something on like this, you know that you’re going to see a great film and be really, really depressed), Harold and Maude (great), Brazil (really enjoyed this), and American Splendor (very good, but waaaaay too much of Paul Giamatti shirtless).
Saturday night, GoodBuddyDoug came by to drink beers (Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and Magic Hat Jinx) and watch the Flyers win an awesome game against the Sens and Mizzou exploit Kansas for being another #2 ranked fraud (see USF). The sports weekend showed even more with my Eagles somehow sticking around to challenge the seemingly inhuman Pats. Where the hell has Greg Lewis been since Super Bowl XXXIX? I was impressed with A. J. Feeley at quarterback and if he hadn’t thrown two interceptions, the Eagles win that game. Heartbreaker.
Another thing accomplished this weekend was working on music for a brief but very effective 30 minutes. I added a couple cymbals and added a new loop underneath the section starting at 1:20ish and it really changed It Will All Be Over Soon… big time. I need to rework the intro – I have far too many songs that start off with beats like that and this by itself sounds too Top Gun-y, I need to pull the new loop back a bit – I was a bit overzealous and let it clip a bit, I want to add lots of ambient stuff (string noise, guitar scratches etc), needs more cymbals, and more guitar parts.
I talked to the kids last night and that quelled the remainder of my Thanksgiving anxiety. Viv told me she was having “orange fries like LB Daniels”(sweet potato french fries) with her dinner and she would share them with me. I have no problem telling all of you that I shed a few tears from my little girl’s offer.

G Lew – me thinks Donnie Mac has some Freddie Mitchell type grudge (the sad thing is I am totally serious)…
Rock on!

I love both Harold & Maude and Brazil. In fact, the song Brazil used to lead to crazy dancing back in ye olde college days.
Glad you had a good chat with the kids last night.

Mike D – G Lew looked like Marvin Harrison last night! That game left me with more questions. Do we start Feeley even with a healthy McNabb?
Chris – i bet Chaos and May would love that dance

You seriously gotta stay away from anything “top-gunny.”

Franki – i think i’m going to record in a pink snowball hat, that should bring the rock
November 26th, 2007 at 12:43 pm

November 26th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Lorrie – oh yeah, forgot the gene-splicing thing i did. i should probably tell the kids before they get here about their new “pet”. I call him Yiggy
November 26th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
It won’t be top-gunny will it?
November 26th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
Franki – it’s actually impossible to wear that pink snow ball hat and not do the devil horns with both hands or give the finger to strangers. oh yes, it will rock and rock hard it shall.

Lummy! You watch as many movies as my brother, maybe more, and that’s saying something. Schindler’s list is a very painful film.
Glad you managed to talk to the children and I sympathise with the fall out. What a good sharer.
Best wishes

Maddy – Ralph Fiennes was so perfectly evil as Amon Goeth. very disturbing.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
That’s an amazing picture. I didn’t realize Ziggy and Yogi shared a body. I see you mentioned your gene splicing project. At least you’re keeping busy!
I’m glad the weekend past with out more Hurricanes.

November 26th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Hilly – it’s more a question if there were any left after turkey day
November 26th, 2007 at 2:14 pm

November 26th, 2007 at 3:50 pm
liv – i read that wrong at first and told me not get all up in your fluffernutter. man those sandwiches kicked ass.
November 26th, 2007 at 5:28 pm
Uh man. I need to go home. For a moment there I thought that was a picture of a dog head on a cat’s body. I had to stare at it for a minute (or three).
November 26th, 2007 at 6:00 pm
Tink – one of these days I’m going to enter your WWC, if it was dog head on cat body, that would be perfect
November 26th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
Did Yiggy have a show a few years ago on Nickelodeon? I think it was called “CatDog”…
November 26th, 2007 at 6:32 pm
Carolyn – no, but i think we’ve got a lawsuit on our hands
November 26th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Your catdoggity is looking a tad dismayed at his close proximity to your sweat sock. haha!
And tears aren’t such a bad thing. They remind you you’re real. And being real hurts sometimes. But it also beats the alternative.
November 26th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
Mary – no, that’s Yogi giving me that “go get me a treat” look, which is also very similar to the “go get the leash look”
November 27th, 2007 at 12:15 am
Paul Giamatti shirtless; you with your old-man nutsack catapulting; “DINKO, DINKO, DINKOOOOO” by FB Gabriel in my head.
Yea, I’m havin’ a real Van day.
(your girl is a worthy pal for my Dinko, btw)
November 27th, 2007 at 5:37 am
Only 1 cord? I cut down 10 trees and stacked them all before lunch time yesterday. Or maybe I just sat on my couch. One or the other.
I swear I was routing so hard for the Eagles last night. I thought they were going to do it. Damn.
Now it looks like the Steelers are our only hope… the team that scored a field goal last night against the Dolphins. Gulp!
November 27th, 2007 at 8:20 am
Magic Hat Jinx, that’s some serious brew. You don’t play around do ya? =o)
November 27th, 2007 at 9:59 am
The picture looks like a new species! I love it.
November 27th, 2007 at 11:06 am
Jocelyn – Dinko looks very creative, I know they would have a blast
corky – I thought about getting two, but the guy didn’t offer a discount, ergo I’ll just do more stacking later. that game last night was messy!
Christy – I dig most of the Magic Hats, I think #9 is my fave
Dyna the Great – just call me Dr. Moreau
