more complaining about my back
I over did it yesterday. I changed filters for my mom, helped move a china cabinet, and then worked about several hours on Zeropercentcards.com and the Lifecycle project. In between all that, me and the kids played a bunch and read some of our favorites before bedtime. Daddy needs a massage. Big time.
I got some good news on Friday evening, my song It Will All Be Over Soon is going to be in a new Adam Bertocci film, Brooklyn Force. I worked with Adam on The World of the End and Madison’s Resume previously, he’s a talented guy and I really appreciated him listening to that track on my MySpace page and digging it enough to include it in his film.
Movie reviews…
Persepolis – it’s pretty impressive when a cartoon creates the clearest insight into what another culture is all about. This film is amazing, seriously. I know lots of intelligent people that write off anything animated, but this is brilliant. Must see.
Vertigo – I’ve realized that Hitchcock + Jimmy Stewart = classic. Kim Novak is insanely beautiful in this film as Madeline. Kim Novak has a curious claim to fame that makes you think… what if she had accepted the lead in Breakfast at Tiffany’s?
- Generation Kill – from the creators of The Wire. this looks awesome
- Techno Kittens – not cute at all, nope
- Vagina Hero – thanks Mel

I watch all the HItchcock’s about ever decade, classics indeed. Didn’t know about breakfast at Tiffany’s! That would have been a very different film.
Cheers

Glad to hear about your song making it into a film. Good stuff! It sucks your back is acting up again … My finger is still a pain (literally) so while it’s not the same I can relate to the frustration of not being able to do normal things.

I love Vertigo! And Kim Novak? WOW! She’s dreamy – much more than Jimmy Stewart – of course. Great movie choices. Have you seen the new Pixar yet? I’m dying to go.
Hope you get a massage or a crack soon!

I loved Persepolis too. I’m trying to get my book club to read it, but they are a bunch of old ladies and aren’t sure they’ll like a “graphic novel.”

Jazz – they made that movie into a book?
Maddy – I think Audrey was intended for that role, but who knows?
Franki – I’m sorry i can’t hear you i’m eating rocks and swimming
Chris – ok, ok, and thanks
Apertome – you know what really hurts, riding my 10 speed, because of the more bent over position
On a Limb with Claudia – yeah i think this weekend i’ll take the brood in to see Wall-E
meno – mmmm, prunes
Greata – i rockingly appreciate that
Dr. gigglechick – hmm, ok, i’ll try anything
Di – i know.. btw, i love it when you call me a plonker. in Kiwi, I know that’s like calling someone Fonzie right?
July 7th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Congrats on the song news – that’s awesome!
I’ve never seen Vertigo. I’m afraid it will give me vertigo.
July 7th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Congratulations on your song being chosen for a movie!! That is amazing. I’m so happy for you and will be sure to see it.
I can’t imagine Kim Novak in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. She was also wrong for Picnic and played her character, Madge, a small town beauty, like a big city whore but she was wonderful in The Man With the Golden Arm. She was drop-dead gorgeous in all her movies, though.

I’m still giggling over Vagina Hero. I’m sure that it would prepare guys to be lovers the way Guitar Hero makes them rock stars. Love the Weird-Ass Picture Book blog too. Since I grew up as a book lover, once I had kids, I had a hard time accepting that some books were either wack-ass or just plain sucked. But she’s right– some books are just strange.
Be kind to your back– maybe get the kids to walk on it. Or not.

Ummm, if you want it to be, plonker can be just like calling somebody Fonzie
Are you talking about Happy Days and The Fonz? or are we shouting across some weird cultural divide. If pressed, I might admit that ‘plonker’ is affectionate kiwi-speak for ‘idiot’.

Di – oh, so plonker isn’t nearly as prestigious as I had hoped. Neil Finn better stop calling me that then

I just love this transatlantic exchange of intra-cultural idioms
Totally off-topic: look what I found just a couple of miles away (shot taken on Rte 70 to Chairville, NJ):

I’m paying $14 (yes, fourteen) a gallon these days in good old Belgium (I know it’s around $4 in the US)

Congrats on the song making the movie!
My husband loved Persepolis, the book, and tried to convince me I could enjoy a graphic novel. Maybe the movie would do it for me.
This mommy needs a massage, too. Shouldn’t the kids we walking gently across our backs?

Sorry about the back, I’m sure the movie music news helped ease the pain a little. Okay, maybe not. I think the Chairville gas station still says gas is $1.05. Guess I’ll need to go to Evergreen for ice cream and check it out.
