a bike ride

At the end of the day, me and the kids took off on our bikes (and scooter for Bubs) for a ride around the block. This was Viv’s first real bike ride of any considerable distance (just a half mile – but for a 4 year old that’s something).

Speaking of bikes, my good friend and local bike mechanic, LarryMac stopped by last night for a beer (and to pick up my mountain bike and a 5 speed mountain bike of Bubs for some repairs). I haven’t seen Larry in a while, so it was good to catch up. This weekend is the Medford Lakes Canoe Carnival, LarryMac is apparently receiving the Golden Oar Award, I of course, being the good friend that I am asked him where they were presenting the oar to him, because I had a suggestion…

I didn’t know that Larry was getting the Golden Oar award, I’ll have to congratulate him when he comes by for our safety check on Saturday. He’s a good guy and did an awesome job fixing our bikes. Thanks for the recommendation…

Jazz – good, i hope so

    Chris – woot indeed

Carolyn – so Larry wasn’t just making the award up? that’s the thing about recommending someone local that does good work… the person doing the work thanks you and then the customer does as well.

Yeah, it’s actually a real award and it’s…a canoe paddle spray painted gold. Nothing but the best here in the lakes! There’s a formal presentation and everything. He’s been working on the Canoe Carnival for a long time, comes around in a canoe and does the safety checks on the floats, making sure we all have fire extinguishers, life jackets, a bucket of sand (no one really knows why, it’s just tradition!), extra paddles and signs that say how many people are on the float so they can rescue us when we sink…

Carolyn – I still remember seeing LarryMac the day after canoe carnival at Spott’s one year. He had this huge head wound and was incredibly hung over. When he told me he had no idea how he had hurt his head, I knew I’d be hanging out with him a lot in the future.

I can’t even remember the last time I rode a bike that wasn’t stationary.

That is far for a 4-year old – you’ll have to enroll her in some pre-k tour de france

Yeah, I can see that happening! I’ve never lived in a place like this…one that creates events so people can get hammered. Sunday morning is also fun…when everyone shows up at Beach One, in the hot sun, hungover, rips the floats apart and tries to jam everything into the dumpsters. You should come down and see that…we’ll be starting around 10. If we can get out of bed…
