summer is definitely gone

Got a nice 3 miles in after work and my body wasn’t quite as cranky as I thought it would be after all the spark pluggery and A/C storingery from Sunday. Doug and Abbe stopped by for beers/wine and flipped back and forth between the ALDS game and the Monday night game. I talked to the kiddos, but I think Viv forgot to call me back at bedtime for her story (I love reading to my little girl even when I can’t feel her pretty brown hair on my shoulder). I read a another few chapters of The Zookeeper’s Wife (which is really good so far) and then fell asleep watching the first half hour or so of Classe Tous Risques (which is excellent so far).

Summer is definitely gone, I broke down and actually got the electric blanket on the bed last night. I need to tar a couple of vents in the roof over the playroom and get the front and back decks sealed before it gets too cold too. Oh, and don’t even mention all those leaves. Yeah, I’ll be busy this weekend.

Movie review…

Hard Candy – this was good, very disturbing, but good. Ellen Page changes her role from awkward 14 year old girl to calculated imprisoner of a suspected pedophile. This movie is Misery meets To Catch a Predator, except instead of meeting Chris Hansen, the pedophile gets castrated (I like that idea much better… consider it Chris?).

I’ve always wanted one of those electric blanket things… though with my luck it would electrocute me.

We are still having 70 and 80 degree days but the nights are cool. And there’s snow in the mountains. I guess fall happens to the best of us.

Chris – now i just need a morning to sleep in, love sleeping under a pile of blankets (and a cat)

Watched ‘Hard Candy’ bout a year ago. I came awfully close to turning it off….but just couldn’t. It is good.

Megan – I totally understand if someone did turn it off, it’s pretty uncomfortable at times, but yeah, it’s good

“The Zookeepers Wife” is the next book on my list. I just got done reading “Feed”. It’s about the future, and everyone has a computer built into their head. It was a really difficult and horrible read. I threw it away when I was finished. It’s nice to know the next book should be better. :)

Tink – this book would make a great movie. the story is pretty cool and i’m a big WWII buff, so the setting is good for me as well

Electric blankets remind me of my childhood. I had no heat in my bedroom, and I loved the feeling of having a really cold nose and being toasty warm everywhere else.

mamatulip – cold weather is the best for sleeping in.

I didn’t score 3 miles Van, but I walked all the way along the river in Antwerp today (about 3 miles, but more at a strolling pace ;-) )

Temps have nosedived in Belgium too: I miss my 90°F vacation hotel, watching the relentless 50°F Belgian rain.

My mother was terrified of electric blankets ever since one of her very early models caused a short-circuit, along with a burnt smell that terrified her. And you know how it goes with early childhood memories: I never owned an electric blanket – piling up several layers seems to do the trick as well.

But then again, it hardly ever freezes in Antwerp anymore.

don’t remind me that summer is over … I’m already depressed enough. At least the Phils won the NLDS! And I’ll have to check out that movie – it will be weird to see Ellen Page in that dark a role.

I loved preheating the bed while I brushed my teeth, when I did own an electric blanket; no real cause for them in Texas. I do have flannel sheets and a down comforter, and that’s pretty nice. I dislike cold a great deal.

Great set of links… I giggled a lot.

I think I’ll skip the movie, but the Zookeeper’s Wife is something I heard reviewed on the radio – thank for the reminder. Certainly cooler around here at night but still high seventies during the day. As I get dressed about 5 by miday I’m boiling!
    Cheers

    Yes, I’m grounded
    Got my wings clipped
    I’m surrounded (by)
    All this pavement
    Guess I’ll circle
    While I’m waiting
    For my fuse to dry

    Someday I’ll fly
    Someday I’ll soar
Someday I’ll be so damn much more
Cause I’m bigger than my body gives me credit for

I am loving, “Yes We Can (Hold Babies)”… but “Hard Candy” sounds too creepy for my taste… I am more on a “House Bunny” level.

Electric blanket, what’s that? I’m still sleeping practically naked on top of the covers with my ceiling fan on. Oh I love that Mail Goggles but do they have something for the late night booty text?
