i’ll be the blurry guy
Had a couple of really good guitar lessons last night. I gave Kyle one of the rites of passage of all guitar players, that’s right…Â Smoke on the Water. Jan and I worked on Pot Kettle Black and a slower version of Ask and then Jan helped me get rid of some of that pesky Chimay in my fridge.
Tonight, I’m gonna try to get a ton of stuff done – hit the library on the way home, hardware store for deck sealant and roofing tar, get a 3 mile run in, teach a guitar lesson to my buddy CJ, record some new stories (Bonjour Butterfly, Do Unto Otters, Llama, Llama Red Pajama, and Lemons Are Not Red)for the next edition of Daddy Reads (the DVDs of me reading stories to my kiddos), have dinner with Mom, fix Mom’s doorbell, get the Airport Express working in the living room, and hopefully fix the dryer drum belt (if it arrives today).

I LOVE the book Llama llama red pajamas except that I don’t normally pronounce pajama that way. When I’m not reading the book, I say Pa JAM ma. Maybe that is wrong?

I think I should go take a nap after reading that. You do so much! (says the girl who just stripped all beds, washed sheets and blankets, did dishes, cloroxed bathroom and all doorknobs, took out trash, bathed dog *again, mowed the lawn and watered all mums….so far).
I will have to check out Llama Llama..haven’t seen it in our scholastic orders but sounds like a goody.

Smoke on the water … dammit, I’m humming it already and it’s 13 after midnight here. If I can’t sleep tonight, you are in so much trouble.
Sigh, I used to climb up on the roof of the school next door and listen to the bands practice that in the hall …

I just wonder how a doorbell breaks?
Our is one of those old fashioned key types… where you turn the key and the bell rings at 10000 decibels and all the dogs go crazy and howl for 12 minutes.
It’s why the “Shhh, baby is sleeping” sign is still hanging from it despite no baby having slept here for 5 years.

Whenever I have to teach one of those riffs like smoke on the water, I try to seduce them into learning something else too like intervals, power chords and pentatonic scales. The don’t all jump at the knowledge. A lot of kids just want to learn a few riff to show off instead of entire songs. No attention span for that. The age of video games!

have i ever mentioned that i LOVE that you do those daddy reads DVDs. i have no doubt they mean a lot to the kids now, but one day they are going to look back and realize how utterly priceless those things are. pure gold, my friend.
