why I find myself smiling more lately
Yep, I’m working today. I like working on holidays. Easy commute, not as many distractions and most folks in the office are usually pretty laid back. I’m battling this external authentication module I’m writing for a Drupal site. Very tricky little fucker, but I should have it done today, if not, I’m working on it this weekend (along with all the other coding I need to work on this weekend too).
Yesterday, I ran Viv’s birth certificate to Nokomis Elementary for her kindergarten registration and forgot it was early dismissal for Bubs and the rest of the students right when I arrived. But all that commotion of the students, teachers, and assistants coming out of the front doors was a nice reminder of why I find myself smiling more lately. Several of the parents of my son’s classmates saw me for the first time and excitedly told me how happy they were that Bubs was back. I heard several stories about kids coming home and screaming to their moms, “VAN IS BACK!!!!”
Bub’s Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers both spotted me and told me how glad they were to see my little guy back home. His kindergarten teacher, Miss D also shouted a hello at Viv when my mother arrived to pick up Bubs. I also met Van’s classroom assistant who was carrying out a couple of left-behind lunchboxes. She stopped my son, asked him if he knew who owned the lunchboxes. Bubs did, told her who the owner of each one was and then pointed out one of the kids in the crowd to her. Before heading over to deliver the lunchbox, she grabbed my arm and told me, “I love him, he is such a sweet kid.”
I am so proud of you Bubs. You are such a brave boy and I’m blown away with how you’ve responded to coming home.
Doug came over last night to drink some beers and watch the Flyers game with me last night. Although that game’s first period had some of the worst officiating I’ve seen all season long, Lundqvist was huge in the third period – his glove save on Danny Carcillo was probably the best save I’ve seen all year.

Now, that is good stuff…nothing like the hustle and bustle of elementary schools during dismissal. Your babies are where they belong!
Yeah, you gotta watch out for those tricky little fuckers

yay i’m so glad he’s happy and is being welcomed back so warmly. i cried reading this post because i’m so relieved for him and know that coming back is exactly the right thing for him and viv and you and me too. all i want is for him & viv to feel safe and secure and happy and loved and even though i realized it kind of late, i’m willing to live wherever they feel all those things.

Cymphony – there are good and bad days of course, but i can see such a difference especially in my son, he’s relaxed and kickin’ butt
dana – he was so polite to the assistant that asked him for help with the lunchboxes, he’s really doing awesome even beyond doing so well on his tests and homework. it’s that willingness to try that impresses me the most.

Being remembered in school can mean so much for a child. It reminds me of days long gone by.
I’m sure you will all have a great Easter weekend together.

I understand the commuting joys of the holiday, but I hate working on holidays.
It’s sad… thankful to have a job, but still don’t wanna work–hehe Human nature??
