One ice hockey game done today, and one more to go. Bubs’ team is playing in the AAHA tourney this weekend in Voorhees. They won handily last night, 8-0 (Bubs got an assist) and this morning, they lost in an OT shootout 3-2. We have to get up early again tomorrow for another 7:30am game. And yes, every time we have these early games, this commercial plays in my head…

Oh and I just discovered this… yes, that’s my patio umbrella that apparently decided to fly up into a tree while we were away at Disney! Thankfully, no damage was done to the house or the umbrella.

We headed down to Millville, NJ to pick up our new (to us) kitchen table. It needs some staining, but it fits nicely in the kitchen and it will be nice to eat meals at a real table for once…

On the way home, Abbe and I stopped at Penza’s Pie’s and picked up this bad boy… if you’ve never had their pies, you seriously have lived an unfulfilled life…

Today my Dad would have been 67. Happy birthday Dad, miss you and love you everyday.

that wasn’t bad for a first day back from vaca

You know, for first days back from vacation… yesterday wasn’t horrible at all. It was busy, but I didn’t have any emergency fires to put out, but I did (and still do) have plenty of work to take care of.

And in the midst of a busy (but not crazy) first day back from vacation, I was able to sneak up onto my roof and clean out my gutters, drop off Mom’s car (and fail miserably at fixing her laptop – wow, I hate PCs), and Abbe and I got in a short run too.

A big congrats to Jim Thome for hitting his 600th home run of his career last night, becoming only the 8th member of the 600 club. While he was with the Phils, he tossed a ball to me at the Vet. That ball is in a case in my son’s room. Thome is definitely one of the good guys in baseball, this 40 year old is very happy to see that 40 year old reach a big milestone.

Both kids had a great first day of camp. I got the headlight replaced in my truck (much easier when I have the correct bulb). The water heater is operational again. We headed over to Mom’s for a swim and some dinner. And then the kids got to meet the neighbors new ~~dog~~ cat, Rocco.

First Day of Camp!

First day of Medford Lakes Summer Camp is here. The kids are mostly raring to go. Bubs is going to be helping out in the crafts section indoors for the first week of camp until he gets his cast off next Wednesday. We met the arts and crafts directory and assistant this morning and Bubs is going to be in good hands – super nice people and Bubs can be a really good helper. I’m sure come Wednesday Bubs will be ready to get on his bike, try some archery, go fishing, and get in the water… you know all the stuff he was excited about in the big kids camp.

During our trip to Pa, Abbe’s Dad inadvertently backed into my truck and knocked my headlight a little bit. We stopped for a replacement bulb and then discovered we got the wrong bulb even though the part number matched. No biggie though. I’m hoping I can get the right halogen bulb today and then see if Chad can take care of the broken housing on my turn signal (the low beams on the driver’s side is the only thing non-operational).

The other problem I will be dealing with today will be my water heater pilot not igniting. Abbe went to shower yesterday and discovered we had no hot water. After unwrapping the water heater and trying the pilot a few times with no spark, I’m going to have to call in the pros. It looks like it’s the piezo ignitor that is failing. It appears that the previous homeowner replaced it once before. I really hope this isn’t a bigger problem.

I had a great day yesterday – got a ton of coding completed, sent out invoices, put together an extremely frustrating hot tub cover lift for my Mom, got another hot run in (with a much needed ice bath immediately following), let Abbe take me out to dinner (I’m nice like that), and then relaxed watching the Phils beat the Mets and some SNL. I’ve already got all the coding done that I wanted to today, so now it’s time to go work on the yard a bit and then do my best to lay in my hammock and read all day with my kids running around the backyard – perfect.

I had a great Saturday: my ex’s migraine finally relented enough for the kids to get some mommy time, I moved some sandbox sand with my buddy Doug, took advantage of the first sunny day in what seems like forever to finally cut my grass, nobody got raptured, I got a ton of coding done for a PuroClean franchise (also the owners are great friends and good folk), had a great phone meeting with a client that sounds like they are ready to cut the Filemaker Pro umbilical cord and build a solid web app to run their business, the Phils won, and then after I picked up Abbe – we walked next door to hang with Leah and drink some wine.

I would be remiss if I didn’t post a picture of Alex and Leah’s rotund feline (and not so aptly named), Mr. Quick chowing down while laying down…

Dodged a big financial bullet yesterday, my cracked molar only required a filing and no root canal was needed. Whew. Being able to eat on one side of my mouth again is heaven.

And yes, I just realized I did it again…

Good news is my water softener needed it.

The even better news is that I am doing very well to get the backend piece of a rather large web project finished this week. I also got a call from another client that wants me to be more involved with their SEO strategizing and we discussed expanding my role with their company. On top of that, in a few months I will be the proud owner of an iPad! I am working on an HTML5/transition Flash-heavy sites to non-Flash heavy sites and my client will be purchasing one for me. After consulting with my family iPad expert (my very talented cousin, Justin), I think I’m going to try to hold out for the iPad 2. The timing should be just right with my development ramping up around that same time and I’ll need the device for unit testing.

By the way, my house smells awesome today. Abbe got a crock pot from her boss and is trying out some sort of really awesome smelling recipe all day.

I got a lot done yesterday. An insane amount of changes/additions for a project that should better be done early next week. I got a short 2.7 mile run in. I stacked the log carrier full on the porch. And… I made some music. Yes, for the first time in (I think) a year, I started writing again. I think that’s a good thing. It’s rough, but meet the beginnings of Have Your Way With Me.

Movie Review…

I’m Still Here – any film with this much male frontal nudity is bound to be polarizing. The penis in film is a divining rod of homophobia/limits of what we are willing to deal with as being “art” as opposed to too obscene. This Casey Affleck directed mockumentary/documentary follows Joaquin Phoenix’s descent/ascension into madness/brilliance during his 2008 decision to quit acting and pursue a career in hip hop. All those slashes in that sentence, that’s what makes this film brilliant/worthless. There are some honest (?) scenes in this movie that are damning to Phoenix’s career no matter what he is really up to – snorting coke; Antony Langston, the former guitarist from Spacehog turned Phoenix’s personal assistant, taking a dump on a sleeping Phoenix (yes, really); the Letterman appearance; miserably failing to perform live; pissing off Ben Stiller; ordering hookers from the internet… the entire film is a car accident. I have no idea who I would recommend this film to, or if I actually would recommend it at all. It’s unsettling to say the least.

Today is a busy one – I need to test out my knee with a short run today (I injured it pretty nicely during our last 15 mile run and rested this week), some holiday shopping, LOTS of coding, finish this Keith Richards’ book, stack the remainder of that cord of firewood, and then Abbe and I have a party to attend tonight at Laurel and Pam’s.
