endings and restartings

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

I made a hard choice yesterday – I’ve stopped teaching piano and guitar lessons. I quit not because I didn’t enjoy doing so, it was simply a matter of economics. I need to free up more time to code so that I can have more free time for myself. I may start teaching again one day, but it really made me sad to end this.

Last night I got to hang with my friends Doug, Tracy, Evil Doug (who I hadn’t seen in three years and we learned is hopefully moving back to the area), Jan, and Jodi. Doug, Doug, and I got to play guitars a bit and Abbe joined us after she was done with work.

OK, I better get back to the coding… and I’m hoping to get a run in this afternoon – my back has been feeling better, I’ll take it easy and just enjoy myself out there today.

A doozy

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Today is doing to be a doozy, first get both kids off to school, code, invoice clients, drop off Abbe Zabby at work, meeting at a client site, conference call on the way from client site to pick up kids from school (half day today), code, teach 3 piano lessons back-to-back-to-back, code, feed kids/maybe self, code more, and then teach guitar lesson…. and then code more probably…

That said, I am sure there are thousands of folks in Alabama and across the south that would trade my busy day with what they woke up to this morning. I have a lot of friends that went to school in Tuscaloosa – really hope they are all OK.

20 Years

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

Busy day full of errands and coding for me today, but I also got some time to do a guitar lesson video for Jan, this is 20 Years by The Civil Wars

Movie Reviews…

Piranha – this was about what I expected. Over the top, no apologetic titties and ridiculous bloody kill scenes. It’s bombastic fun, that’s it.

The Crazies – I thought for sure this would be a terrible gore-fest but it was a decent apocalyptical flick. Think of it as The Happening, but actually watchable.

all very uncomfortable to consider

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Today is a busy day. Doctor appointment for me (and we will hopefully get some information on what the heck is going on with these once in a while flu symptoms), on-site client meeting (can’t wait to talk Phillies with Kara), I have an estimate to get to a client, lots of coding, my son is bringing his buddy John home to play after school, and a guitar lesson to teach in the evening.

Along with all of that, my best friend since I was 5 (and my attorney), Doug is helping me get my will and estate plans together. This really is not fun business to consider at all. In my position, I have two kids, a soon-to-be wife, and an ex-wife that I have to plan to take care of as best as I can. This is all very uncomfortable to consider, but insuring the kids have their college and a place to live covered, Abbe and Dana can afford nice places to live without any debt from myself – that’s the goal.

I’m pretty sure I will still be stressed when I’m dead, worrying about all of them.

Drinks with friends and a surrogate golden retriever cuddling

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

We headed over to my good buddy Chris’ house last night for a couple beers and some cuddle time with Moose (aka Seamus), Chris’ very sweet golden retriever… Moose looks a lot like Yogi, it’s hard not to think about our big orange boy. It was great hanging out with Chris and Rich (another good Laker friend) last night.

Here’s another one of my guitar lesson videos, this is Blue by the Jayhawks…

OK, folks two things before you enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday…

  1. Go follow Flyer’s defenseman, Matt Carle’s Twitter feed. If Matt reaches 10,000 followers before the end of the season (which is April 9th), he will donate $10,000 to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Costs you nothing folks – do it, no excuses.
  2. Visit my friend Sarah Bloom’s Kickstarter project and consider pledging to help an incredibly talented artist reach her goal.
