playing back and hard work

БогородицаBubs, Abbe, and I took Titan over to Freedom Park for a nice romp with a bunch of doggies. We dropped our pup off at home and then headed to the rink for his game. Bubs did a really good job, he decided he wanted to play a little more defense this game and he responded well. He still needs to keep his skates moving when an opposing player gets by him, but he did seem very comfortable with playing back. Some of us are good scorers and do better forcing the issue, and some of us are better protectors. Bubs has lots of years of playing ice hockey in his future, but for now, this really suits his personality.

On top of Bubs having a great game this weekend, he also very well may be on the edge of getting his second consecutive straight A’s report card. He has an 86 in math, his only B and if he gets a high enough A on his Divisibility Rules Chart project, the boy could pull it off!

And it’s up to me to make sure Bubs not only enjoys this time where he is not only handling the schedule of being an ice hockey player and doing well in school, I want him to understand the satisfaction of working hard.

This is pretty cool. A group of IT guys (ITidiots) post video podcasts and they happen to use one of my tracks (title – So Funky It Stinks) as their theme music (it’s in the beginning of the videos). I wrote this song nearly 10 years ago, they moved the videos to a YouTube channel and wanted my permission to continue using the track. No money involved, but hey I never made much playing/writing music anyway!

Here’s Titan helping Bubs with some stick handling drills…

And this was pretty sweet, the reminder note on Viv’s bedside table reads, “finish watching Singin’ in the Rain with Abbe”. So glad Abbe introduced Viv to that musical last night. Hearing Viv and Abbe laugh so hard during “Make ‘Em Laugh” should be bottled. No one would ever be sad ever.

Movie Reviews…

Transformers: Dark of the Moon – if you spend a fuckton on a movie, no matter how shitty the script, no matter how unlikeable every single character in the film may be, no matter if you regurgitate the same script up on the screen – people will line up like cattle to watch it. Moo.

Happily Loud Again

I spent most of yesterday working, but thankfully, did get enough work done to enjoy some of the Winter Classic on TV. Titan was picked up in the morning. The kids came home in the evening. The home is happily loud again.

Today is a busy day. Answered a few emails from customers. Coded a bunch of changes in for a project that is very close to completion. Had an ICQ meeting with a new client. Picked up Titan and Raven from their getaway at Canine Cottage this morning. Now I’m heading to a meeting. Once back, Abbe and I will be helping my mother store her Christmas stuff, hopefully get a short run in with Titan and then this evening, the kids come home from their visit to see the family in Georgia. I can’t wait to see them. Viv and Van head back to school for two days and then we are off to Disney!

Happy 2012 everybody! This has been quite a year for our home: I ran my first marathon, I proposed to Abbe, Bubs played his first ice hockey games, Viv made some amazing art, I turned 40, the kids went camping for the first time ever in a real tent in the woods, Bubs got his first straight A’s report card, I got health insurance, Viv and Van both got baseballs at a Phillies game, Abbe and I were in the newspaper, Abbe, Bill, and I raised over $11,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and we adopted Titan. So 2012, I think you’ve got some great stuff in store for us as well – let’s do this.

Oh and before our 10 mile run (the last big one before next weekend’s Goofy Challenge in Disney World!)… Abbe discussed black toenails that we runners are prone to get… and I react…

And before I forget, here are some pictures from NYE with the Mecks, we had a blast!

One last busy day of 2011

Today is a very busy last day of the year. First we are dropping off Raven and Titan at Canine Cottage for their weekend getaway. Next, Abbe have to get our last long run before the marathon in – 10 miles around Kelly Drive. After the run, we are going to continue heading west to Longswamp, PA to spend NYE with the Mecks. Very busy. Lots of work to wrap up before the end of the year, combined with a little girl that is going to turn 8 tomorrow, combined with Christmas, combined with getting everything ready to run a half and full marathons in less than three weeks, and yeah… I’m pooped. I need to go get a quick three mile in with my pup and then I’m meeting BLP for lunch.
