Abbe and I got a big run in yesterday at Cooper River Park, 16 miles and finished in great shape. We treated ourselves to some coffee afterwards and then a modest celebratory dinner with some pizza from Riv.
BLP came over for a late afternoon meeting and we covered a lot of stuff for one of our best clients and even chatted about some potentially really cool ideas involving the future of both of our companies.
Today, I’ll be rooting for Bubs during the Pinelands League soccer tourney. The Lakers have real shot as the number one seed for a championship today. Go get ‘em boys!!!
Movie Reviews…
Life in a Day – loved this documentary, this was the culmination of Youtube submissions of a day in the life of people all around the world edited together into a snapshot of life literally, in a day. People brushing their teeth, people eating, sleeping, dying, coming out to their grandmas… everything. Only complaint was the final clip – it felt kind of self-involved and contradictory to the realism of the previous portions of the film. Great concept, and fantastic execution. Highly recommended.
Prefontaine – I ordered this movie from my library as a surprise for Abbe and I to watch. We are runners and Steve Prefontaine is one of the icons in the running world. A man that died too young and changed the world of running in his few years on this earth. But holy shit, if I were a member of the Prefontaine family, I would have sued Jared Leto, the producer, directory and anyone that had anything to do with this piece of awful filmmaking. There is not one redeeming portion. Like at all. This could very well challenge Mannequin 2 for worst movie ever made.
Kids Want iPads This Holiday Season - also in other news, some kids would like to eat or receive medical treatment this holiday season. So before you plunk down that much cash for your child, make sure you help someone that would trade their very best day for your child’s worst.
Last Thursday (I know, I’m usually better about updating my blog… more on how busy I have been in a sec), Abbe and I headed down to Wilmington, DE to see Louie CK at The Grand Opera (my favorite venue in the Philly area). After a hugely disappointing Tosh show that Abbe and I saw in Reading, I didn’t have high hopes, but Louie killed up there. That was the best live comedy set I’ve ever seen (even better than David Cross).
Bubs (and his family) had a busy day yesterday. 8am soccer pictures, 9:30am soccer game, and a 3:30pm ice hockey game down in Sewell, NJ (about an hour from our home).
After a brutal week, I am absolutely running on fumes right now. Today is going to be a bit of a bear – Doug is joining Abbe and I for an 8 mile run this morning, then I’m helping Doug move his snow blower, Abbe is heading to our good friend Paige’s christening, and then Audra from the lab rescue group is stopping by to give Titan a hug.
And this next week looks possibly worse – Monday – Viv and I have a sleep study for her, Tuesday – Bubs’ soccer practice, Viv has art class and brownies that night, and Titan has obedience class even later that night; Wednesday – Bubs’ ice hockey practice; Thursday – Titan going to the vet again (there’s a probably meaningless lump on his chest I want to have looked at), Bubs’ soccer practice, and then a client meeting that evening. Friday looks fairly open and I plan on keeping it that way. Saturday soccer and Sunday ice hockey.
I’ve got to do my best to have patience with myself and others with weeks like this one and last. All of these practices/classes/meetings are good things, but holy shit, I need some rest. The irony in all of this is that I just posted this at 6:30am and I’ve been up since 5:30am because I can’t sleep. Probably because I’m worried about all of this stuff, money, raising money for LLS… Ahh yes, the wonderful vicious cycle of stress insomnia… awesome.
Here goes a busy week… today is actually fairly normal – picture day and work, Tuesday gets busier – Viv’s art class, Bub’s soccer practice, Wednesday - lunch meeting, ice hockey practice, Thursday – lunch meeting, Bub’s and I are going to see the Flyer’s preseason game against the Devils, Friday – another normal day. In between all that, I’m going to try and get about 15-20 miles worth of running in there and a bunch of coding. Next week is going to be fun (and also busy), Big Tom from New Mexico is coming to town and we are going to see The Gourds with him Tuesday night at World Cafe Live.
Last night, we had a good home inspection with Brookline Lab Rescue. We are still looking for that perfect pup. I say pup, but we are truly looking for an adult dog.
