back on the ice

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

It was so great to see this…

Bubs getting back on the ice. He was a little tentative at first (Bubs’ take – “I was hanging back playing D”), but once he started getting in there and battling for the puck, he was fine. He score a nice goal – weaving through the opposition and putting one in the back of the net. Best part – he celebrated with his team instead of some of the Ovi-esque jumping against the glass and silly hot dogging. He came home a tired sweaty 10 year old, asking me if I saw every single play he made out there on the way home. Perfect.

I haven’t talked about baseball in a while and now is a fun time of year – the trade deadline is nearing and the Phils, thankfully, are once again buyers. One of the big rumors floating around is Carlos Beltran being traded to the Phillies, and I am here to tell you – I am dead set against it. Why wouldn’t I want this all-star switch-hitting outfielder? Well, the same reason I was 100% against the Phils acquiring Luis Castillo in spring training – the 3 Mets that refused to visit Walter Reed Hospital to lift the spirits of some of our country’s heroes. Now Beltran’s excuse (I don’t know who is creating this issue. This offseason I went to visit the veteran hospital in New York. It’s not that I’m against it. I actually went with [Mets principal owner] Fred Wilpon. … And I wanted to go, but I had my own things to do.) was not quite as contrite and horrible as Castillo’s (You see people with no legs and with no arms, being in a hospital like that, I don’t like to see that….We didn’t go because we didn’t like to see that.).

But still – you had your own things to do? Couldn’t spare a couple hours in your $18M a year salary for some men and women that fought for this country that fills the seats of your games and pays your salary? No thanks, I don’t want to see you in Phils pinstripes – no matter if that means a World Series title or not.

Field Day and Ice Cream

Friday, June 17th, 2011

After lunch time, I pedaled my bike down to my son’s school for field day… the parents and teachers did a great job, the kids had a blast.

Bubs had a sleepover at his Mom’s last night and Abbe and I took Viv down to the Sand Stand for some ice cream and walked across Aetna Way to look at the water…

Movie Review…

The Green Hornet – wow, this was terrible. It did have Cameron Diaz in it, which is movie poison (i.e. Brendan Fraser) but this was terrible well before Diaz was cast. The script was terrible.

I got a lot done – plenty of coding and I got the 5 mile run in. But I just now realized, I had my dates crossed up and not only is batting practice today, but I also had my softball scheduled off too. So I woke up thinking I had a doubleheader today, to realize that I have batting practice at 3:30 and then a game at 4:30. Dammit!

Well, the good news is that I have some extra time to get more work done this afternoon – but now I have to figure out picking up Abbe at work at 4pm and having the kids dropped off at the field or later at my place. Ugh! Me = moron.

I got some work done and a little before closing time at the cheese shoppe, I dropped in for dinner while Abbe cleaned up.

My buddy Meredith spotted the picture above and requested one of these… yes, that is a chocolate dipped slice of cheese cake and you can get one today during the Festival of Art, Music & Wine between Noon and 4pm on Main Street in Medford at the Carriage Trade Cheese Shoppe.

I’m helpful

Monday, April 18th, 2011

The kids, Abbe, Mom, and I headed out to our favorite restaurant, Wasabi yesterday evening. The kids really behaved well. Viv even tried a double salmon roll (which she said was gross). Abbe and Bubs had ice cream after dinner (Viv did not due to not cleaning her plate). Here they are polishing off some green tea and chocolate ice cream…

Bubs spent the night with his Memom last night and Viv relaxed with Abbe and I. Abbe and Viv played a little piano together…

And then I got one of the first drum solo serenades ever…

Later on that night, Abbe was chatting with a friend on facebook and being the loving and helpful boyfriend fiancee that I am, when she had to go away from her keyboard, I let our friend Liz know what was up…
